Safeguarding Children, Young People and Adults at Risk

Works For All Ltd's commitment to safeguarding all those we work with.

Our Commitment to Safeguarding

We believe that:

  • Children, young people and adults should never experience abuse of any kind
  • Everybody has a responsibility to promote the welfare of all children and young people and adults, to keep them safe and to practise in a way that protects them
  • Some children and adults are additionally vulnerable because of the impact of previous experiences, their level of dependency, communication needs or other issues

We commit to:

  • Giving equal priority to keeping all children, young people and adults safe regardless of their age, disability, gender reassignment, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation
  • Ensuring that the welfare of those we work with is paramount in all the work we do and in all the decisions we take
  • All people regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation have an equal right to protection from all types of harm or abuse
  • Working in partnership with our beneficiaries and other agencies as an essential component in promoting safeguarding and welfare
  • Building and embedding a culture that places transparency and sound safeguarding practice at the centre of all its activities
  • Ensuring that any safeguarding concerns are addressed in accordance with our safeguarding policy and procedures and that staff are fully supported to do this

We Seek to Keep Children, Young People and Adults Safe By

  • Valuing, listening to and respecting them
  • Making sure that children, young people and their families know where to go for help if they have a concern
  • Building a safeguarding culture where staff and volunteers, children, young people and their families, treat each other with respect and are comfortable about sharing concerns
  • Using our safeguarding and child protection procedures to share concerns and relevant information with agencies who need to know, and involving children, young people, parents, families and carers appropriately
  • Appointing a nominated child protection lead for children and young people
  • Recruiting safely and then providing effective management, supervision and support for staff and volunteers
  • Recording, storing and using information professionally and securely, in line with data protection legislation and guidance
  • Ensuring that we provide a safe physical environment for our children, young people, staff and volunteers

Statement of Purpose for This Safeguarding Policy

Works For All Ltd (the Organisation, we, our or us) is committed to preventing and responding to risks of harm to and promoting the welfare of all children and adults at risk that we work with or otherwise come into contact with through the course of our work. These individuals are referred to as the 'Beneficiaries' of this Safeguarding Policy.

The purpose of this policy is:

  • To protect children, young people and adults at risk who receive our services or otherwise come into contact with our organisation from harm. This also includes the children of adults who come into contact with the organisation.
  • To provide staff and volunteers, as well as children, young people, adults at risk and their families and other supporters, with the overarching principles that guide our approach to child and adult safeguarding.

We recognise the importance of this commitment to safety and welfare and, further, are committed to safeguarding all Beneficiaries without discrimination due to an individual's age, disability, race, religion or belief, sex, gender reassignment, pregnancy or maternity leave status, marriage or civil partnership status, or sexual orientation.

This Safeguarding Policy is based on the safeguarding laws of England, Wales, and Scotland, including related guidance issued by the UK Government and relevant governmental departments, agencies, and public bodies.

Definitions

Safeguarding

An umbrella term that refers to work (e.g. practices and procedures) aimed at preventing or responding to harm or risks of harm posed to vulnerable individuals, and at promoting these individuals' wider welfare.

Children

Individuals younger than 18 years old.

Adults at Risk

Individuals 18 years old or over (in England and Wales) or 16 years old or over (in Scotland) who have care and/or support needs and who are, because of these needs, unable to protect themselves from harm (e.g. due to illness or disability). This need not be on a permanent basis.

Types of Abuse

Children and adults may be vulnerable to neglect and abuse or exploitation. Abuse can take a variety of different forms, including:

Sexual, physical, emotional abuse, and neglect Fabricated or induced illness (FII) Exploitation by criminal gangs Trafficking and modern slavery Online abuse Sexual exploitation Radicalisation Domestic abuse Financial abuse Female genital mutilation (FGM) Discriminatory abuse Organisational abuse

Key Measures We Are Committed to Implementing

Reporting Safeguarding Concerns

Ensuring that Staff Members are trained to, and encouraged to, report any Safeguarding Concerns that they identify. Staff Members will be encouraged to follow Works For All Ltd's safeguarding reporting procedures as closely as possible when reporting concerns.

Safe Recruitment

Following appropriate recruitment processes when recruiting new Staff Members, including volunteers. This includes conducting all appropriate pre-employment checks (e.g. DBS criminal record checks) and ensuring new Staff Members take part in all necessary safeguarding training before having any contact with Beneficiaries.

Safeguarding Training

Providing appropriate safeguarding training for all relevant Staff Members. Every Staff Member should be provided with, and required to undertake, training that is appropriate to their role, responsibilities, and degree and type of contact with Beneficiaries.

Data Protection

Ensuring that all information related to Safeguarding Concerns is handled safely and securely, following the requirements set out by the UK's data protection laws, including The UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Procedures: Reporting

If a Staff Member identifies a Safeguarding Concern, to report it they should:

  1. 1 Take immediate action by contacting emergency services if there is believed to be an immediate threat to life or an imminent risk of significant harm.
  2. 2 Contact the Designated Safeguarding Officer Rebecca Fedia.

If informed about or concerned about abuse, employees must:

  • Always place the child or adult's welfare and interests as the paramount consideration
  • Listen carefully and actively to the person
  • Do not show shock at what is being said
  • Do not investigate - ask clear, open questions only if needed
  • Remain calm and reassure the person that they have done the right thing by talking
  • Never promise to keep a secret or confidentiality

Immediate Risk of Harm

If an employee or volunteer believes a child or adult to be at immediate risk of harm or abuse, and/or a criminal offence is taking place, they must:

Call 999 immediately

Then contact the Designated Safeguarding Officer to advise on next steps.
